On to Pennsylvania…9/11 Memorial

I spent a down day in Monroeville, PA doing absolutely nothing once I arrived. It was darn near 90 degrees most of the drive there and I had no energy to do anything!  There wasn’t even a heck of a lot to see on the drive there! Though I did briefly go through WV which I did not expect.

I picked the Doubletree here because it too had a restaurant attached…Share. I did not want to have to leave the hotel once I arrived…I don’t do 90 degrees well! A little embarrassed to say dinner was 2 wonderfully delicious pretzels and a cheese dip along with a nice cold glass of wine!  YUM…

Rise and shine the next morning…I have places to go and things to see!  My only destinations today are the Tower of Voices and Flight 93 9/11 Memorial in Stonycreek Township, PA.  Some of the signs I saw also said it was in Stoysville so I am not 100% sure…I put Flight 93 Memorial in Waze and followed directions! I have been to the 9/11 Memorials in Manhattan & Connecticut and this one was no different.  It leaves tears on your face and a heaviness in your heart.  This place was different though.  When I went to the Memorial in Manhattan I was with a photography group so I did not have time to go into the buildings and in Connecticut I did not see a building to go into.  Here I was on my own time and I saw all of it.  Inside the building is a section with personal items of the victims as well as trinkets left by visitors along a temporary fence.  When finishing work was being done all of those trinkets left in memory of someone by visitors were collected and are now in glass cases for all to cherish. I am pretty sure that my images will not provoke the feelings I felt while standing there…with all of the souls of those that perished on that field.  Included here are images and names of those who lost their life that day.  I just found out the Memorial is open as of May 15 but the building remains closed as of now.

Tower of Voices…This installation was still a work in progress when I was here last year.  They had some of the chimes connected because they were not working properly though I did include a view short videos of it trying to work.

There is no good way to end this post other than to quietly and respectfully end it.  I will be moving on to New Jersey tomorrow.  Please return for the rest of this journey.
