I’m calling this one…Life on Wadleigh Pond!

When it was time for me to leave Lincoln, NH I just wasn’t prepared to head home! As everyone who knows me now knows, it happens quite often and no longer surprises anyone…in fact they are surprised when I show up back home when I say I am going to! My siblings are happy I have the Life360 app so they can keep track of what I am up to…my children don’t care to know…they just expect to hear from me sooner or later…within a reasonable period of time! 🙂

I thought it would be nice to spend some time on the water vs the mountains…didn’t look (or really care) to see what the weather was going to be. I wanted to go to Maine because it was fairly close by but not to a town or area I had already been to…a pond or lake vs the ocean! When I found this place in Lyman, ME I thought the price was great and booked it so I committed to three more nights! Nothing specific I wanted to see…just enjoy being on the water and it worked out great!

Before showing you “life on Wadleigh Pond“…I want to share the cottage I stayed at! Sorry I didn’t for the Lincoln, NH location…both owner’s taken great pride in their properties…but the cottage! It’s on the water! My place of peace and soul replenishing!

Pretty cool place, huh!!

So…it rained most of the time I was in Maine…not heavy but from the moment I arrived into town-Thursday…and leaving on Sunday…Saturday became decent and I did go out to dinner but didn’t explore much. Most of my time was spent editing pictures with camera at hand prepared to take pictures when I felt a need! 🙂 A lot of these pictures show water drops though there are some from Saturday morning and Sunday morning (it did start out gloomy!) but the nature in the area…lovely! If you like birds and natural wildlife…I think you will like these…there is also a very large bird which I initially thought was an eagle but determined it was just not…just not sure what it was…an extremely large vulture? I initially discovered it when I heard the wings flapping from across the pond…through a closed window! Big Bird!! Enjoy!

I typically like a reasonable “words to photo” ratio but in this case…I am hoping “life on Wadleigh Pond” speaks for itself and you just love the photos that lack words…and of course, if you have questions/comments and I can answer them I certainly will!

It is interesting that Lyman is so close to a lot of the towns I have stayed in and visited in the past…yet I never heard of it and never visited! Definitely worth the visit!!

Kancamagus Highway heading over to Lyman, ME in the rain and fog!

Well, my computer got fixed for a few minutes anyway but the battery is once again dying so I think it may be time to suck it up and buy a new one! I have had this one almost 6 years and it has treated me well up to now but it may be time to let it go…

Anyway…time to drive back up the Kancamagus Highway over to Lyman, ME. I found a cute cottage on Airbnb over in Lyman on Wadleigh Pond. A reasonably priced cottage on the water…almost like it tapped me on the shoulder and say you really should do this!

When I left Lincoln there was fog and a light drizzle. I knew it was going to rain today but was hoping it would hold off until I got into the cottage and I couldn’t do that until after 4:00. Once I got out of the National Park, the sun was attempting to come out and the rain stopped. Ten minutes from the cottage, the rain started again! I was surprised that the 2 hour drive over there took almost 3.5 hours but I did stop a few times. Well worth the extra drive time!

So…pictures start with the drive through the mountains on the Kancamagus. There is a picture of a couple who were out hiking in the drizzle with their dogs. Brrr….it was a raw day. I do love birch trees, especially in the mist!

Before entering into Maine I went through the beautiful town of Eaton, NH! I came down a hill and saw a church reflecting on the town beach…I was in awe and hoping that I would be able to pull over and get a picture or two. The mountain off to the side surrounded by fog was also reflecting in the water. I was in heaven! Then shortly after I got back on the road I came across another body of water…Purity Pond! A little bit of heaven for my brain and soul!

See the pictures with the white trail going across the water? Not 100% sure but I think it is a beaver!

Finally entered Maine! Here are just a few between entering the State and getting to Lyman...

This ends another day trip between NH and ME! Hope you loved the beauty that is New England!

A day trip on the Kancamagus Highway, Lincoln NH…

I have to start by saying that I can not believe it has been 5 months since I last wrote…man, am I getting lazy! 🙂 I have been on so many cool trips locally, mostly exploring Massachusetts due to Covid but now that I have had both shots of the Moderna vaccine I decided to venture out of the state.

Last Monday I left for an Airbnb in Lincoln, NH. I hadn’t been to Lincoln since I was a child and someone had posted a picture of a waterfall and I thought…”I like waterfalls” so I went on the Airbnb app and found a lovely studio condo at The Lodge at Lincoln Station and planned to explore.

Two issues with this plan…I booked too far in advance to know what the weather was going to be and I did not research the hike to the waterfall…as it turned out the weather was not going to cooperate while I was there! Monday-Thursday and Tuesday was supposed to be the best day! And the waterfall I wanted to visit…a nine mile hike! Reviews said it started out easy but towards the end you had to pretty much be at least an intermediate rock climber in order to access the waterfall. Well, I don’t do 9 miles of anything…on a really good day I might be able to do 3 miles but it has to be spread out over hours with places to sit along the way…and I am absolutely not even a beginner when it comes to rock climbing.

New plan…just head up the Kancamagus Highway and stop wherever I pleased! There is plenty to see along that very long and beautiful highway. 56+ miles of New Hampshire beauty through the White Mountains National Forest. I headed out Tuesday, rather late but just right for me, and returned right before sunset.

Here are my favorites from that daythese images include the Pemigewasset River, Lower Falls, the Swift River with its waterfall (very small compared to where I had planned to go!) and a few other areas along the highway with turnouts and parking areas.

These were not all the pictures from the day…just my favorites. More stories to follow from my trip to New Hampshire…which was supposed to end Thursday but I decided to move on to Lyman, ME because I just wasn’t ready to go home…and I found a lovely, reasonably priced Airbnb on Wadleigh Pond.

Feeling a little lazy…

I know I have a lot of blogging to get caught up on and I keep adding more “stuff” to the folder I use to save what I want to blog about but many days I get caught up with other things and by the time I stop I am feeling too lazy to spend the time blogging.

So…this is a blog about nothing because it is what I have the energy for now before I head off to bed to watch Netflix! 🙂

I went to let one of the dogs out today and saw the late-afternoon sky reflecting in the birdbath outside my back door. I paused to enjoy the reflection then did a 180 degree walk around one side of the birdbath. I saw some cool stuff so I went and grabbed my camera. These are the result of those moments in time…me humoring me.

So…without further ado here is a lazy girl blog! The first image is clouds reflecting but the wind was blowing just enough to put some ripples in the water. The rest are pretty self-explanatory. I hope you enjoy as I did!

Kind of cool…right?

Skipping ahead a bit…

I have been on a number of trips since my last post staying home very little…took me forever to get all those pictures sorted and processed. I was waiting for a down day to get caught up but down days have been rainy days and we have had very few of those…so I kept going on trips.

Today is a down day…only a road trip yesterday but since I knew it was going to rain I decided to go some place local that other’s have been posting pictures about so I could see it for myself in all its fall splendor! The Old Stone Church in West Boylston, MA…I have been there once before in the late spring/early summer but never in the fall and all of the pictures I had seen planted a bug in my head and yesterday was the day.

So, skipping (for now) the late August trip, the two September trips and the two October trips (not to mention the upcoming October trip)…I bring you the splendor that is the Old Stone Church on the Wachusett Reservoir!

There are more but I like all these the best…there were a lot of cars parked nearby but I saw very few people there…and the people in the above pictures…they were not with me…they weren’t even with each other! But it was a gorgeous 70 degree fall day! And, today is rainy, gloomy, muggy…just need the rain otherwise it can go away!

Enjoy the magnificent color that is fall in my neck of the woods!
